Secret Diaries – Quick Guide

[If you're appreciating this you can now buy me coffee here!]

Sandra starts off as a freelance PR specialist. She also co-owns a dating app called Together… Apart (with Trinny) and over the year they have launched the app work and tried to make it work for lockdown. It also now has a virtual reality angle to it. Sandra has a sister called Frankie who’s husband Rob had a crush on Sandra, but seems to be over this now. Frankie has two young children and the two sister also have to deal with their parents Yolanda (not her real name) and Eric (his real name. Sandra took a full-time marketing job with Epstein’s logistics just before Christmas. However Epstein’s seems to not want to make any announcements or noise about anything that might be controversial. Sandra had a bad time over Christmas and new year but has come through it all. She’s now decided Together… Apart should not be dominated by their male coder Adrian and has found an alternative. There is (probably) something going on between Sandra and Daniel but as yet it’s unrequited.

Bentley is an OAP gentleman with dodgy connections to a sort-of criminal underworld and a cat who starts out being called Covid and ends up being called Lucky. Having tried initially to get in touch with his family – Shiela (ex-wife), Lawrence his son and Natalie his granddaughter, events seem to have overtaken him. His actions and those of the people around him have drawn him back into his old connections, namely Aston, Jeremy Knowles and Jaggers, all of whom were small time crooks operating from the south coast of England. Having received a box full of money, been drawn into a chase for a ring and seen Jaggers killed by falling from his balcony (accidentally) Bentley is trying to take control of his life, however Aston (and probably others) have more plans for him.

Daniel is a divorced sales manager who finds himself responsible for his 6 year old daughter in lockdown. Having split with his wife Chrissy there is some tension over who should have Daisy with them. This becomes particularly difficult when Chrissy takes Daisy to France, with Daniel’s reaction finally leading to the end of his relationship with girlfriend Nadia. Ultimately Daniel decides he wants Daisy to stay with him, despite the chaos and destruction this brings to his house. Work wise he loses one job and ends up working for Together… Apart. He home schools Daisy as best he can and falls out with Gordon, a parent of another child at school.

Wayne is a best selling scene leading grime music artist. Until lockdown he’s used to everyone managing things for him - including his social media accounts. Lockdown leads him to take more control over this. He also meets and starts a relationship with Dave, the restauranteur who owns the flat downstairs. Their relationship is tempestuous at times and Wayne gets some stick for his new found sexuality. Lockdown also leads him to find out who his real mum is, or at least Cassie comes forward claiming to be his mum. Unfortunately Cassie also sells her story to the tabloids which causes more repercussions for Wayne. Despite everything he’s still experimenting with his music and look and is now to be the subject of a documentary film made by a Michael MacCabe.

Jenny is married to Izzy and they have two teenage kids, Peter and Helen. Jenny left her job as a finance manager which she held alongside Izzy, in order to pursue other interests. This was meant to mean more bike riding, but she’s since looked into becoming a plumber. Her relationship with Izzy isn’t great as her wife has taken a bigger role at the company they both worked for and seems less interested in her and the family in general. Taking up more of Jenny’s time however are Peter and Helen. Peter gets his girlfriend Jude pregnant and the baby is born at the start of March 2021. Helen, meanwhile is the more moody of the two (but only just) and starts a TikTok account of her painting. Jenny joins in this activity and the two go viral until someone hacks their account. Faced with new grandparent responsibilities alongside her parenting role, Jenny seems uncertain that she’ll ever be able to do anything just for her.
