“Hi, yeah we’re nearly at your door. No seriously we absolutely are, no doubt man. ManzDown and Jezzy from BarnStormerz exclusive to to you in your front room. Yeah, yeah we got all the stuff are you excited man? Yeah? Excited? For real?”

Wayne checked the vehicle around him. They and their chauffeur had been joined by Freya, the single tech support person they had for the front room gig. Together they would set up, play, record and then get out of there.

“Hope your neighbours are ok about it. Yeah reckon they’ll hear it. Them and all your street.”

The car shifted into a cul-de-sac and came to rest outside number 23. Wayne was out of the vehicle, mask on, straight to the door. Phone still on ear.

“Can you hear us? Here we are, how exciting is this?” He said knocking hard on the door. “Come on open up, open up!”

There door was opened.

“And here we… aren’t…” Wayne’s voice tailed off because this wasn’t the house he was looking for and the man who had opened the door was about 70 and decidedly not a fan.

“Yes?” asked the man.

“You don’t happen to know where David and Naomi Johnson live do you?”

———

Daniel stopped the car at the appointed location.

And there she was. She smiled underneath the mask and got in.

“You’re not really an Uber driver are you?” she laughed.

“Absolutely not,” said Daniel. “I don’t give this kind of service to just anyone.”

At last they’d made a date and this time they’d seen it through. The two of them, in a car, going somewhere, doing something.

There was a song in Daniel’s heart so he decided to put it on the car stereo.

Idles surged from the stereo.

“Oh dear God I hate this racket,” said Sandra.

Daniel Stopped the car. “W-What?”

“Have you heard Duran Duran’s latest?” asked Sandra.

Daniel paused. Unsure whether to go with this or let her out now.

———-

The first ping came when she left the driveway. She thought it was a mistake. She’d check later.

The second ping came before she’d turned the corner of the street onto the main road.

The third came as she was pushing the bike back into the garage.

“Alright, alright!” She shouted at the phone.

Jenny would not be going back to work for a while.
